Marc Jacobs – Lola Perfume: Overview, Smell, Notes & More!

I am always searching for the right scent.

Something that I can enjoy smelling again and again throughout my day.

Marc Jacobs Lola is my latest fav.

With a delightful combination of fruity and floral scents, this perfume has me feeling fresh and confident all day.

Marc Jacobs Lola was released in 2009 and is marketed as a women’s fragrance.

It was created by perfumers Calice Becker and Yann Vasnier with consultation from Ann Gottlieb.

This perfume was the winner of the Women’s Luxe Fragrance of the Year in 2010 at the Fragrance Foundation’s FiFi Awards.

Fragrance Notes

  • Top Notes: pink peppercorn, pear, ruby red grapefruit
  • Heart Notes: peony, rose, geranium
  • Base Notes: vanilla, creamy musk, tonka bean

The Scent

Don’t be alarmed by these scent combinations, they work surprisingly well together.

The aroma is strong at first, which can be intimidating.

But, before you go scrubbing it off your wrists, give it a moment to settle in.

I thought I would hate this scent based on the fact that Lola includes pink pepper and that it came out of the bottle smelling like red wine.

After the initial strong scent wafted away, I was left with a surprisingly elegant perfume.

The top of pink pepper coupled with the middle notes infused with rose petals makes this a mature scent with a very luxurious feel.

I love how it smells. It is quite a unique scent and one I was definitely not expecting.

This is a very long-lasting scent.

Since it is so strong, I can still smell it on my wrists after my evening shower.

You don’t need to put on all that much to keep smelling it all day long but if you want extra longevity, try layering it with the Lola luxurious body cream.

Best Ways to Wear It

This is a great scent for a night out, especially for a first date.

The aroma is so unique and elegant it will get you many compliments and strangers will want to know what you are wearing.

It’s perfect for times where you want to be the center of attention.

This will surely attract the attention of any date.

And you will feel truly classy pairing this with a black dress.

 Oh, Lola!

Unfortunately, Lola was discontinued by Marc Jacobs.

Fortunately, they released Oh, Lola! in 2011 as a creative sequel to Lola.

It was made by the same perfumers, but the scents are slightly different than the original.

While Lola was going for a vintage feel, Oh, Lola! was made to be a more modern take.

The top aromas are raspberry, pear, and strawberry—very different fruity choices from Lola.

The heart notes are peony, magnolia, and cyclamen.

They kept the peony but swapped out the other two flower scents.

The bottom notes are almost the same as the original Lola but vanilla and sandalwood were used.

Although it’s quite different, it may be a good alternative if you are looking for a similar vibe to Lola.

This perfume is hard to find these days and, as a result, the prices are high.

Right now, I’m only seeing prices listed around $27 for a full-size bottle.

Smaller or sample sizes can be found anywhere from $70 to $180.

Oh, Lola! is still available through Marc Jacobs, so it can be found for a lot cheaper.

I saw it listed as low as $40 for a 3.4 oz bottle.

The Bottom Line

This is a lovely solid perfume with an abundance of class and elegance.

The scent combinations work really well together too.

It is a shame that it’s so hard to find now.

Luckily, there’s the new version as well as some similar scents from other brands.

I’ve been incredibly happy with my bottle of Lola, and I will definitely replace it when it runs out.

Perfumes that Smell like Marc Jacobs Lola

1. Coco Noir Hair Mist by Chanel

This perfume has grapefruit as a top note and musk and vanilla as bottom notes.

Released in 2018, this scent is more of a modern spin on the Lola.

Although it is marketed as a hair mist instead of a perfume, I think it is a good option if you want a similar aroma to Lola.

2. Feerie Rose Des Neiges by Van Cleef & Arpels

This scent has similar notes in all three categories, sharing pear and pink peppercorn in the top, peony and rose in the heart, and musk and tonka beans in the base.

This scent is very similar to Lola, so if you stumble across this perfume and are a fan of Lola, I would pick this one up.

3. Shine by Heidi Klum

With pear and pink peppercorn as tops and the same bases as Lola, this is an excellent bargain option if you are searching for a similar aroma.

It does not have the same flare as the Lola, for sure, but I feel this perfume is still a nice, affordable scent but not one that feels as full of class and elegance.

But, if you love what Lola has to offer, Shine would be ideal as an everyday alternative to your classy night-on-the-town fragrance.
