Jean Paul Gaultier – Gaultier 2: Overview, Smell, Notes & More!
Jean Paul Gaultier 2 is an amber, vanilla fragrance for both men and women.
Formulated by the nose and expertise of master perfumer, Francis Kurkdjian, this unisex perfume has been around since its launch in 2005.
Unfortunately, it isnʼt accessible anymore, at least in its market price, because of a halt in production.
- Brand: Jean Paul Gaultier
- Fragrance: Gaultier 2
- Release: 2005
- Gender: Unisex

The Gaultier 2 cologne doesnʼt have your traditional top, heart, and base notes.
It is basically a linear aroma with amber, musk, and vanilla lasting throughout its life span.
What Does JPG Gaultier 2 Smell Like?
The JPG Gaultier 2 opens up clean, sweet, and spicy.
You will detect sweet fruity-floral notes further supplemented by the warm, sensual, erotic vibes of amber and musk.
The sweet smell will remind you of bubblegum and Jean Paul Gaultierʼs first fragrance, Classique.
This aroma typically smells the same throughout the life span of the product.
Thankfully, the floral notes do calm down a bit after a while, letting the amber and vanilla aromas showcase their top talents.
Out of the lot, vanilla seems to have the most important role to play.
Thankfully, it serves its role impeccably, minimizing the quality scent’s sharp edges with minimal fuss.
After the product dries down to form a skin scent, it leaves you with cozy, sweet, and soapy vibes.
How Long Does JPG Gaultier 2 Last For?
Fortunately, the unisex fragrance doesnʼt disappoint with it comes to performance.
This product has fantastic longevity; on average, it can last nine hours without reapplication.
The unisex scent performs even better on clothes.
And the sillage is also quite rich and remarkable.
However, bear in mind that how long it lasts also depends on your body chemistry, mood, age, stress level, diet, and current medications.
When Should You Wear It?
Iʼm going to be honest here—I donʼt think itʼd be possible for you to use this product as your signature bottle of perfume as it only has three notes.
However, if you pick your moments carefully and only use it as a change-of-pace aroma for special evenings in the colder months, youʼll be able to turn plenty of heads and receive loads of compliments.
Why does this aroma work in the winter? Well, itʼs sensual, warm, and has enough about it to linger on your cherished cardigan for extended periods of time.
Be careful not to spray too much though as it will leave you with an overwhelming scent.
Presentation and Value For Money
As I mentioned earlier, the Gaultier 2 eau de parfum bottle has been discontinued.
So, it is difficult for anyone to purchase it at its original market price.
And, honestly, I donʼt think it is worth the trouble and inflated price.
Of course, the verdict would have been completely different if it were still in production.
After all, it does many things right and has all the features you would want in a winter perfume.
It has awesome lasting power, good sillage, and excellent projection.
Most importantly, it proves Leonardo da Vinci’s point that, “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
Oh, how it has managed to take over the aroma world with only dominant notes of amber, musk, and vanilla!
The Bottom Line
This mildly spicy scent is addictive, inoffensive, and unique despite only smelling of three notes.
Ideal for both sexes aged 25 and up, the Gaultier 2 will undoubtedly serve you well i.e. if you can get your hands on a bottle without paying through the nose.
All in all, the Gaultier 2 would have been worth the massive splurge had its price not been hiked up so much due to the halt in production.
Perfumes that Smell Like JPG Gaultier 2
If you’re looking for a similar fragrance that’s more accessible, to me, the Gaultier 2 smells a lot like Alien Essence Absolue.
Of course, the scents arenʼt completely identical as the Gaultier is much drier, boozier, and muskier whereas the Alien is rounder, moister, and, overall, more gourmand.
When you wear the Gaultier 2 for the first time, you will also be reminded of the dirty, animalistic vanilla offered by Al-Rehab’s Sultan Al Oud.
You can also go for Gaultier 2 if you enjoy how Jil Sander smells.
Both fragrances will have you feeling divinely sexy because of their fun, seductive notes.
