Amouage – Memoir Man: Overview, Smell, Notes & More!

This luscious leather fragrance for men, designed by Karine Vinchon Spehner, was launched in 2010.

Although it is tagged as a “leather fragrance,” the perfumer, Spehner, actually concocted the scent around the middle note of absinthe – the highly intoxicating anise-flavored spirit.

Men love it for its middle notes and the dominant frankincense scent.

Amouage is a luxury fragrance house founded in Oman in 1983.

It has gained international recognition for its collection of expensive niche fragrances.

Focused on revolutionizing the art of Arabian perfumery, most Amouage fragrances are wonderfully unique.

What Does Amouage Memoir Man Smell Like?

It opens strongly with a green fragrance. It’s deliciously herbaceous with a splash of fantastic mint and greenery and a defined smell of wormwood and transparent bitter absinthe.

And all this is surrounded by the warmth of the frankincense.

Frankincense All Throughout

This niche fragrance is governed by a strong, crisp, and sharp greenery; however, it is the slightly smoky frankincense that remains until the end.

It then bleeds into a combination of sweet spices.

Sandalwood

When the scent dries out on your skin, after about five to six hours, what stands out is an aroma that is both rich and woody, with a faint guaiac wood smell thanks to the sandalwood base note.

Impression

The scent brings to mind a dark and enchanting place.

It conjures visuals of a deep and mysterious forest or the smell of the air on the darkest winter day. The fragrance reminds me of a wet field or the aroma of the air just before a storm.

The scent gives the wearer a somewhat authoritarian feel.

It’s the perfume of a powerfully rich man, which is both intimidating and intriguing.

How Long Does Amouage Memoir Man Last For?

This perfume lasts between 10 to 12 hours.

Although some claim that it disappears within five hours, it could just be due to an environmental factor.

The overall consensus is that it has great longevity.

The majority of its wearers swear that it stays on you for an average of 11 hours, which makes it long-lasting.

The sillage, or projection, is moderate, with the smell sticking around for four to five hours.

When Should You Wear It?

It is an anytime perfume. It can be used in all seasons and weather conditions.

Some fans, however, prefer wearing it at nighttime because of its intensely dark green and mysterious fragrance.

Others say it’s a winter scent because cold weather tends to bring out the exquisiteness of the perfume.

Where Should You Wear It?

This is definitely not a casual perfume.

It’s a men’s fragrance suited to a black-tie event or very formal, VIP-style special occasions.

The smell has a distinctly posh feel.

It would smell great at an upscale wedding or a gentleman’s club.

It’s a classy and sophisticated perfume suited for high-end, luxurious settings.

Do not wear it to a club or at a party.

The scent is also not ideal for a date night – it’s too businesslike.

It has a whiff of nobility, which gives you a distinguished appeal that is gentlemanly and stately.

Presentation and Value For Money

The inky black squarish bottle is intimidating yet impressive.

It generally resembles the other Amouage perfumes.

The magnetic metal cap adds an aesthetic look to it.

If you look on top of the cap, you’ll find the Amouage crest.

It costs a staggering $250 to $300 a bottle, but the exquisite, regal smell provides good value for money.

The Bottom Line

This fragrance is definitely not one of those gentle scents that you randomly apply.

It is powerful and regal and ideal for middle-aged men who want to make an impression.

In essence, if you enjoy expensive green aromas with a leather scent, you’ll love this one.
